Cebu grads dominate CPA board
CEBU, Philippines - Nine graduates from Cebu-based universities made it to the Top 10 of the May 2019 licensure examinations for certified public accountants (CPAs).
Vianca Pearl Amores and Marianito Jesus Del Rio, both from the University of San Carlos, led the pack of successful examinees this year with a score of 92.67 percent.
Four more USC graduates joined them in the Top 10: Jessa Bermudo (2nd, 92.50 percent); Alyanna Kate Buenavista (4th, 91.83 percent); Maaku Saito (4th, 91.83 percent); and Cristiemay Vertudazo (10th, 90 percent).
Aside from them, graduates from the University of San Jose-Recoletos also cracked into the topnotcher’s list, including Harold Pacaña (6th, 91 percent); Marie Claire Cortes (7th, 90.67 percent); and Jessele Ann Echavez (7th, 90.67 percent).
Amores, a summa cum laude graduate, admitted it has not been a smooth-sailing ride.
“I survived four CEL (comprehensive examination level) exams, countless departmentals, and IRC (review). I can't count how many times I've cried over my poor performance. At times, it has felt like looking down into a great chasm. But I have learned in my long enough life that most things do pass,” she posted along with her graduation photo on Facebook.
Faye Loraine Micabalo, USC review coordinator, attributed the success of their students to their steadfast efforts since first year.
“Every batch is an inspiration to the next batch. They really have the heart to succeed and make their CPA dreams come true. Also, the faculty and admin of USC have always been supportive and hardworking in giving quality education to all our students. All glory to our Almighty Father,” she told The FREEMAN.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 3,389 of 9,645 takers passed the exam last week given in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Legaspi. (FREEMAN)
