Mandaue chamber gives cash for PDEA-7 building completion

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) turned over a total collection of P380,000 to the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency-7 yesterday intended for the completion of the agency’s planned two-story building.

MCCI President Glenn Soco said they support the agency’s call for drug-free workplaces.

"Because for the businessmen like us, if our employees are drug-free then our companies will be drug-free also," said Soco after the turnover ceremony held at the new Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas at The Greenery in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

PDEA-7 Director Yogi Ruiz said that the P2 million budget for their building was given by Senator Antonio Trillanes but the building was not completed due to lack of funds.

Ruiz said construction of the building began in October in 2016 and completion was supposed to be by December the same year.

"Wa pa gyud mahuman due to lack of funds. I am so happy that with the money given to us by MCCI, the building will be completed, maybe by March of this year," Ruiz said.

Soco said that MCCI has around 300 members who contributed money thus they were able to raise the amount.

Ruiz added that once completed, the building will be used as quarters for PDEA agents, especially those coming from other regions who will be assigned to Cebu. (FREEMAN)
