CEBU, Philippines - A head-on collision Tuesday night between a Ceres bus and a private van in Sitio Matnog, Tuburan, Cebu left the van driver and a three-year-old child dead.

Police Officer 2 Jameller Palanas Jr., of the Tuburan Police Station, said that there were eight passengers in the van when it collided with a Ceres bus around 8 p.m. last Tuesday.

Declared dead upon arrival at the Tuburan District Hospital were Napoleon Mahinay, 43, and CJ Senining, 3.

Other passengers Victoria and Nelson Senining, Margie and Francisca Mahinay are still in critical condition.

“Nag-abot ni sila sa tunga sa curve line.  Medyo kusog ang padagan (van),” Palanas said.

He added that both parties are to be blamed because of their lapses.

The families of Mahinay and Senining reportedly came from a party in a nearby town before the accident happened.

Palanas added that, based on their initial investigation, Napoleon might be drunk when he was driving the van.

Ceres bus driver Robin Ompad voluntarily surrendered to the police right after the incident. He is currently detained at the Tuburan Police Station.

Ompad may face a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and homicide. (FREEMAN)
