In Lapu-lapu City: No disco, tigbakay a ‘good move’ – cops

Christell Fatima M. Tudtud - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) believes that Mayor Paz Radaza's move discouraging the barangay leaders from issuing permits for discos and cockfighting was a "good move" in preventing untoward incidents.

LCPO operations chief Junnel Caadlawon said they support Radaza's call and that they would also recommend the same to other units, for safety pruposes.

"Pag-likay pud sa panghitabo, ang mga pundok-pundok kay mao nay vulnerable nga mga parts (sa city)," Caadlawon  said.

Earlier, Radaza urged village chiefs not to issue permits to those activities and other communal events, after the two recent bombing incidents in Davao City and Hilongos, Leyte that left at least 15 people dead and several others injured.

Radaza had said that the agreement on the suspension in granting of permits for discos and other activities reflects the coordination among the LCPO, the barangays and the city government, since this will ease up the police workload.

"Dako kaayong pasalamat namo sa police kay at least, gamay nalang among bantayanan," Caadlawon said.

Though the harmonious efforts of the barangays and the city government creates positive impact to the police, Caadlawon clarified that security will still be provided.

At present, they are on red alert status, considering that there are two international events slated in the next two weeks.

There will be a business-related conference of 48 countries on January 12 to 16, and the staging of the Miss Universe swimwear competition on January 17.

"Gitahasan gihapon nato ang kapolisan ana," Caadlawon said referring to LCPO security preparations.  (FREEMAN)
