The cold season is already here
CEBU, Philippines - Time to bring out your sweaters and prepare those cups of hot chocolate.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA)-Cebu Officer-in-charge Alfredo Quiblat Jr. said present meteorological conditions indicate that the northeast monsoon or the Amihan has already started.
This means that cool breeze will pervade in the country until February next year, when temperature significantly drops.
The northeast monsoon commonly sets in from November until May, bringing cool air to the country’s shores especially from December to February.
Its wind originates from the northern hemisphere (from mainland China or from Siberia) will drift to the eastern sections of the country, bringing cold and dry air.
Quiblat predicted that the northeasterly winds would persist this December, and weather forecasting models suggest that it would come from the east to the northeast.
PAGASA Regional Services Division for Visayas Weather Specialist Romeo Aguirre said the average minimum temperature in the region’s lowlands is expected to drop in the lowlands from 19.6 degrees Celsius to 24.9 degrees Celsius in November.
Temperature is expected to be in the range of 8.9 degrees Celsius to 25.8 degrees Celsius next month,19 degrees Celsius to 25.3 degrees Celsius in January 2017, and 16.1 degrees Celsius to 24.6 degrees Celsius in February 2017. (FREEMAN)
