CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Council is planning to build a track and field oval in Talisay City Central School in Poblacion, Talisay City next year.

Vice Mayor Alan Bucao passed a resolution requesting City Engineer Gamaliel Vicente to formulate the program of works for the construction of a track and field oval which was approved by the council during yesterday’s regular session.

“Hangyoon ang engineering through sa opisina ni City Mayor nga pahimuan nato ug study unya mu-formulate ug program kung kaya ba nato, possible ba nga maghimu ta ug track and field upon the suggestion of Congressman Samsam Gullas,” said Bucao.

According to Bucao, Cebu First District Representative Gerald Anthony ‘Samsam’ Gullas, who is active in sports, has earlier mentioned the possibility of putting up an oval in Talisay on two separate occasions, during the ‘Alay Lakad’ and ‘Halad Kang Sta. Teresa de Avila’ activities held last October.

Bucao said that they are looking forward to providing facilities that can serve their constituents and can host sports events and other outdoor activities.

“Daghan ta’g trackers sa Talisay, unya para sad aduna ta’y oval nga kadaganan sa atong athletes. Unya kung naa usab ta’y sports activities, diri nato ma-held,” Bucao said.

Bucao explained that the size of the oval would vary depending on the available land area in Talisay Central School.

He said that they were inspired by the City of Naga after the neighboring city opened a standard-size 400-meter rubberized track in Barangay Central Poblacion, Naga City in October 2015.

The council plans to use funds from the Department of Education’s Special Education Fund, though, at present, it is still looking into the calculations for the amount to be allocated for the project.

Meanwhile, Bucao also authored a resolution to expedite the program of works for the proposed renovation of the Talisay City Grandstand. (FREEMAN)
