CEBU, Philippines - One of the nine construction workers who were injured after a wall of a hardware store outlet in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan collapsed has died Friday afternoon.

The fatality was identified as Lazaro Capa Jr.

Police Officer 3 Jason Gayo said Capa passed away at around 4 p.m. at the Mendero Medical Center in Consolacion town, about two hours after the incident.

The other workers who were injured are Luel Baticao, Bong Cuba, Alex Rosal, Melvin Proconato, Rene Baredo, Condito Baolan and Antonio Cuenza.

"Baticao is in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Cuba is in ICU isolation, Rosal, Baredo and Baolan are admitted for surgery," Gayo said yesterday.

Proconato has been released from the hospital.

Initial investigation showed the foundation of the structure could be weak, which was why the wall collapsed.

Police went to the area after personnel of Citi Hardware sought for assistance.

Gayo said families of the victims have not appeared before the police station but the PNP is willing to assist them should they decide to take legal action against Citi Hardware. (FREEMAN)
