Capitol to give new PB members new vehicles

Romiel Franz C. Gallego - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government is planning to purchase two new vehicles for the incoming new Provincial Board members of the 7th District.

Governor Hilario Davide III, when asked for his mandate regarding the existing government vehicles of the outgoing board members and department heads who have tendered their courtesy resignation, said that the vehicles should go through the standard procedure of turning over to the next board member replacing them.

However, new vehicles must be provided for the additional board members in the 7th District.

“Board Member [Christopher] Baricuatro already has a vehicle so si [Jerome] Librando, I suppose, masabot-sabotan ra ‘na nila,” Davide said.

Jone Siegfred Sepe, the Provincial Government Assistant Department Head, said that regarding those department heads who have submitted their courtesy resignations, the governor still has to decide whether to accept or reject them.

“Nakadungog mi nga gibuhat na sa Cebu City, but diri sa Kapitolyo, wa pa may pulong si Gov nga gidawat ba ‘to niya, gi-reject ba to niya ang mga courtesy resignations. Padayon ang atong pagpanerbisyo sa atong katilingban,” he said.

Sepe also said that since the vehicles are needed, they have decided not to revoke such government properties.

“Even kadtong mga outgoing na public officials, naa pa man sila until sa June 30, so padayon gihapon nato sila nga pagamiton sa mga sakyanan,” he added.

Last week, 32 out of 80 barangays from Cebu City returned their city-issued vehicles to the City Hall’s General Services Office in accordance to the memorandum signed by acting mayor Margarita Osmeña last May 17 ordering all employees, department heads and barangay captains to return all city-owned vehicles for inventory purposes.

Sepe, who took his oath yesterday along with Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Katherine Dela Calzada and Provincial Government Budget head Danilo Rodas, said that there will be continuation of government services despite the submission of courtesy resignations.

“Padayon ang tanang proseso. Ang approvals muagi gihapon sa normal offices. Tanan authorized pa based on their job descriptions,” he said.

The assigning of equipment and vehicles shall be done after being cleared in the inventory and accounting once the former employees resign.

The inaugural procession for the incoming employees and board members will be on July 4.

As of now, plans to replace old vehicles with new ones are still being looked into.

“Napun-an man ron og duha [ang board members]. Before, 14 ra sila, karon 16 na sila. Basig lain tan-awn kung ang duha ra ka bag-o maoy bag-o [ug sakyanan],” Sepe said. — (FREEMAN)
