The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old man drowned after being astounded by waves while trying to rescue his two cousins Sunday morning in the seawaters off Sitio Guiwanon in Barangay Poblacion, Compostela, Cebu.

The victim, Ellykurt Bayabas Dayon, 19, resident of Sitio Binabag in Barangay Estaca, Compostela, was declared dead on arrival at Danao City Provincial District Hospital.

Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Junrey Frias and Police Officer 2 Fidelito Jopia revealed that the family and some relatives were then out for a Sunday get-together at the beach.  The victim and his mother Leah were just cooking on the shores when they suddenly heard voices screaming for help.

Leah then saw her two nieces being surged by the waves. Her son, Ellykurt, together with other relatives, rushed to save their two female cousins.

The two were eventually rescued, but unfortunately, Dayon’s son was swept away by strong waves and went missing.

After an hour of search, fishermen found the victim floating nearby.  (FREEMAN)
