New traffic lights seen to ease Talisay traffic

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City has installed computerized traffic lights worth P7 million to manage vehicle traffic in the city more properly.

In a resolution that approved the P7 million budget, Councilor Valeriano Ylanan said the new traffic system is expected to lessen the traffic problem in the city, especially in Barangay Tabunok.

Ylanan chairs the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA).

The traffic lights are installed at the intersection of the South Road Properties in Barangay San Roque, Cansojong, San Isidro, Lawaan and Tabunok. The lights are similar to those in Mandaue City, which have a built-in camera.

Ylanan said the city decided to purchase the technology because it has been using the old traffic lights which operated manually for the many years.

This time around, the traffic group can utilize its personnel fully in the field as it does not have to assign men to operate the traffic lights. The traffic group has 90 personnel.   He said the Council aims to pass an additional budget for more traffic lights and for the establishment of a traffic command center.

“Basin sa sunod buwan, atong mapapasar ang laing budget alang sa dugang traffic lights ug ang pagpahimo na unya sa atong command center nga magbase diha sa Ta-lisay City Hall,” Ylanan said. (FREEMAN)
