Opening of Robinsons Galleria: Moving traffic assured Thursday

May B. Miasco/RHM - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - After the recent mall opening at the South Road Properties resulted to traffic jam, Cebu City Hall’s traffic enforcement arm this time assured that opening of another giant shopping mall in the city this Thursday will not inconvenience motorists and the riding public.

The Cebu City Transportation Office and the management of Robinsons Galleria Cebu had wrapped up their collaborative discussions and already laid out the final traffic management plan for the mall opening two days from now.

“We are confident that the traffic situation on the day of its opening on December 10, 2015 will be manageable,” said CCTO acting executive director Rey Gealon.

Around 30 traffic personnel will be deployed along General Maxilom Avenue Extension, Sergio Osmeña Boulevard and all the roads near the mall like A. Soriano Avenue, J. de Veyra Street, Jose L. Briones Street, 3rd Avenue, B. Benedicto Street, and 13th Avenue.

Gealon is optimistic that road traffic is controllable after the management of Robinson Galleria Cebu agreed to implement the recommended modification plans of CCTO on the original traffic plan Robinsons had submitted to the office.

Through Floramie Vega, regional operations manager of Robinsons Land Corporation, the mall management also gave its corresponding plan of action to the recommendations of CCTO’s Planning Division, which conducted a site inspection.

CCTO, in a November 12 letter, recommended for the first two driveways reckoned from S. Osmeña Avenue to be closed to minimize traffic problem along the area.

In her response letter, Vega persisted that barriers are presently placed on the two driveways to prevent accidents among pedestrians.

Also, there were recommendations that Robinsons will implement, such as exiting vehicles coming from Robinsons shall only turn right in order not to obstruct traffic.   (FREEMAN)
