Armed suspect arrested after attacking boy, girl

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A man who allegedly slapped a boy several times and tried to stab him then threatened to kill a girl was arrested in Barangay Anunang Norte, Bogo City, Cebu Friday afternoon.

Raul Polo, 47, was brought to Bogo City Police Station by Regional Public Safety Battalion personnel who responded to the call for assistance.

Initial investigation showed that Polo allegedly slapped a 16-year-old boy several times and threatened to stab him, saying "dunggabon ta kang buanga ka!"

It was not yet clear what transpired between the suspect and the victim prior to the incident.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a knife from his waistline to stab the boy, but the latter managed to push him away, giving him time to run away from the suspect.

The suspect chased the boy but did not catch up with him so he stopped from running.

He then saw a 10-year-old girl grinding corn at a shanty nearby and told her to stop what she was doing.

"Undanga nang galing nimo diha kay mobaha nang dugo nimo ron," quoted the suspect as saying, which frightened the girl.

The girl asked the help of his parents and neighbors and, fortunately, RPSB personnel who were conducting patrol nearby received the report and responded to the area.

They caught the suspect holding a knife and arrested him.

They brought the suspect to the police station along with the boy and the girl.

The victims were then brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for psychological and medical examination while the suspect is now detained.

The police are set to file a case of child abuse against the suspect. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
