Gwen: Magpale no financial wizard
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III could not credit the fantastic financial performance of the province to the short stint of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale as acting governor.
Former governor and now third district Representative Gwendolyn Garcia said Magpale “is no financial wizard” who could have led the Capitol from out of bankruptcy to financial success.
Magpale served as acting governor for six months upon the suspension of Garcia on December 19, 2012.
“This is getting more hilarious by the minute. Crediting Magpale for the fantastic financial performance of the province exposes either inexcusable ignorance or blatant dishonesty,” said Garcia.
“When Magpale took over as OIC, all her actions and statements were driven to lamely justify the illegal power grab at the Capitol of which she was the direct beneficiary, hence her uninformed and ill-motivated declaration that the Capitol was bankrupt,” she added.
Garcia said Davide has been at the helm of the Capitol for almost three years now and she expected him to have studied and learned about the true financial status of the province from the time he took over until the present.
The FREEMAN reported on June 29, 2013 that as of March 31, 2013, the Province had P615.4 million gross income and a total asset of P28 billion while as of June 25, 2013, it had a total of P791.4 million cash in bank and a dollar account amounting to $517,728.36.
“These are attested facts by the provincial treasurer which, from the time we presented at the turnover ceremony up to now, have never been refuted by Davide himself. And so, to say that it was Magpale that had magically dragged the province out of bankruptcy in just six months is ridiculous and, once again, hilarious,” Garcia said.
The FREEMAN tried to call Magpale for comment but all calls were left unanswered. There was also no reply to text messages sent to her. (FREEMAN)
