5 face charges over cop’s death

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least five people will face charges for the death of Police Officer 1 Jimmy Jorge whose skeletal remains were found in Barangay Santicon, Badian town.

The Special Investigation Task Group led by Superintendent Anthony Bagarinao, deputy provincial director for operation, found out that Jorge was killed. The group also found out that the suspects had a personal grudge against Jorge, which allegedly led them to kill him.

The five include Andres Llego, Tanny Carteciano, Luciano Carteciano, Jennilyn Carteciano, and a minor son of Tanny.

Provincial Police Director, Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, said Llego is a suspected drug pusher and marijuana cultivator who is in hiding after the Dalaguete Police raided his place sometime in September.

Llego was allegedly angry at Jorge because the cop destroyed the shanty he built on a property subrogated to him that turned out to be Jorge’s and which the cop redeemed later.

The property is located in Manlaoay but was mortgaged first to a third person before subrogated to Llego for P25,000.

Witnesses reportedly saw Jorge taking a ride at Llego’s multicab heading to Santicon, Badian before the cop went missing.

Witnesses Leonilo and Marlon Jorge said Llego reportedly told them he would kill the cop for redeeming the property.

Tanny, meanwhile, is also allegedly involved in growing marijuana and Jorge’s presence in the barangay where the plantation is located was allegedly a threat to the illegal drug trade.

Gillamac said that right after the Dalaguete Police raided Llego, Tanny was “disturbed” and thought they were looking for Jorge so he and his family reportedly moved Jorge’s bones buried near their house and transferred these to the woods. Later, they would allegedly pretend to have found the bones and report the supposed discovery to the police.

Gillamac said laboratory findings suggest that the place where the bones were found was “tampered,” which suggested the bones might have brought there from another area.

Tanny and his son were considered persons of interest for allegedly lying to the police during investigation.

Jorge’s wife Marilyn told reporters he is happy to know that justice would be served. She said they were actually planning to live in Manlapay, Dalaguete where their property is situated.

She said after they have redeemed the property, Jorge would always go to the mountains to visit the land. She wanted to come with him several times but Jorge would reportedly tell her it would not be a good idea considering rumors of people who wanted him dead.

Gillamac said he will file a report that Jorge was killed so that his family will receive his benefits. He said the case is now considered closed.  (FREEMAN)
