As year ends: PRO-7 assessing performance of police commanders

CEBU, Philippines – As the year 2015 is about to end, Police Regional Office-7 is now starting to assess the performance of city and provincial police directors down to the chiefs of police stations in the region.

Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, chief of the Regional Directorial Staff of PRO-7, said they will evaluate if their subordinates performed well, especially on the campaign against the three “flagship projects” of the Philippine National Police: illegal drugs, illegal gambling and loose firearms.

“Kay we are now towards the end of the year and this is part of our annual assessment sa ilang performance,” said Lawas.

He said if ever a police commander fails in the said assessment, it would already be up to PRO-7 director Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas to decide on what to do with them.

“Depende na unya na sa kung unsa’y mahimo ni regional director (Bañas) nga desisyon adtong mga nagkuwang ang mga gimbuhaton kay this is a regular mandate sa pulis, labi na anang tulo ka flagship projects,” said Lawas.

Lawas further said part of the directive of the regional director is to look into the records of the crime incidents in the region, saying they have noticed that there are a lot of incidents recorded in the police blotter reports but were unsolved.

He said they will check if there are police personnel who do not follow up crime incidents being forwarded to their office.

“Maayo unta og unsolved after exerting all efforts pero basin naa gyud uban nga wa gyud sila nagpakabana pagpangita og solusyon nianang problema. So that is one thing nga usa sa atong tan-awon,” he said.

The PRO-7 official reminded police commanders to always do their jobs and responsibilities even without any directive from the higher-ups.

He mentioned the Talisay City Police Station which reportedly cracked down on operators of illegal swertres, closed down several booths and apprehended stall attendants last Wednesday only after a special session was made about the said illegal activities that were actually rampant in the area.

“Makita siguro nato nga daghan dakop nga gibuhat ang Talisay but it is a major reaction. Sa ato pa og wala’y directive diay dili pud ta manakop? So that’s another reminder and reiteration on the directive of our regional director,” said Lawas.

He said when they learned about the situation in Talisay City, they have directed Cebu Provincial Police Director Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac to direct the chief of Talisay City police, Superintendent Germano Mallari, to submit his explanation about the allegations.

 Aside from that, Lawas said they also tasked Mallari to submit record on their accomplishment against illegal gambling activities. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
