In cebu city: 16 brgys have P130M unliquidated cash

Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least 16 of the 80 barangays in Cebu City have not received their financial assistance from the city government since they have not liquidated their previous cash aid.

These barangays have a total unliquidated cash of P130.1 million from previous years.

These are barangays Banilad, Capitol Site, Cogon Ramos, Day-as, Kasambagan, Lahug, San Roque, Talamban, Tejero, Zapatera, Buhisan, Bulacao, Guadalupe, Kinsang-an, Labangon, and Quiot.

With this, Mayor Michael Rama called the barangay captains of these barangays to a meeting yesterday since the city government aims to help them resolve their unliquidated cash aid.

Some of these unliquidated cash assistance were identified as “questionable” and some were “solvable.”

Rama said the barangays that have “questionable” unliquidated cash aid are Capitol Site, Day-as, Kasambagan, Lahug, Buhisan, and Quiot.

“Kaning barangays kay questionable because naay utang sa previous administration,” he said, adding that he called for the meeting to assist these barangays.

However, Rama said there are barangay officials who have not attended the meeting, asking them to attend in the next meeting slated in the first week of December to resolve the problem.

“Akong gipatawag sila, akong giingngan nga dili ko motan-aw kun kaatbang ba mo or dili. Para nako, you deserve to receive, para inyo gud na nga project,” he said.

Rama, though, said he would not want to look at the number of the unliquidated cash aid of these barangay for as long as they would liquidate it.

“We will be helping them because there are what we call existing barangay financial aid ought to be released but cannot be released because of unliquidated. Padung man gud na sa tao. Unya ang tao maoy apektado, unya luoy kaayo,” he said.

The city government has been releasing cash aid to different barangays in the city. The cash aid differs, as there are barangays that will receive P10 million, P8 million, P6 million, and P5 million.

Rama said, however, that the amount is based on the size and needs of the barangay and no politics is involved in coming up with the figure.

He said these barangays should resolve the unliquidated cash aid until December 15 since the P800,000 capital outlay under this year’s budget will be reverted back to the general fund.

But Rama declined to categorically answer when asked if the cash aid would not be released to the 16 barangays if they will not be able to liquidate.

He said he would announce his final decision before December 15.

“Right now, let us all work it out aron they will have a chance to receive it. It is not fair because it belongs to the constituents. I do not want to hear nga dili maka-receive tungod sa previous administration nga unliquidated cash,” he said.

City Administrator Lucelle Mercado said she was asked by the mayor to create a task force to assist these barangays. — /LPM (FREEMAN)
