Gullas sues JVR’s son over FB post

Gabriel Bonjoc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City mayoralty candidate and former first district Representative Eduardo Gullas has filed libel charges against the son of Talisay Mayor Johnny De los Reyes for accusing him of earning P30 million from the sale of the Tabunok Public Market to private investors.

Gullas said Clifford De los Reyes made the accusation on Facebook last September.

Gullas said.

His name was not indicated in the post but Gullas contended it alluded to him.

Gullas described De los Reyes’ camp as desperate. He said that when he was mayor, he never sold any property of the city government nor borrowed money to build projects.

Clifford, in a separate interview, said he was merely defending his father over accusations made by Gullas’ camp and will answer Gullas’ charges.

One of Gullas’ lawyers, Oscar Capacio, said his client is also contemplating on filing separate libel charges against De los Reyes’ son, John Yre.

“All I can say, I’m not going to file a case just to be dismissed. In other words, I will also review the evidence. Probably, they forgot I’m also a member of the Philippine bar. I belong to class 56,” Gullas said.

Gullas said John Yre, the administrator of Talisay City, allegedly made malicious accusations against him and the members of his camp on the former’s paid radio program over dyRC. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
