Naga police chief vows to get rid of scalawags

CEBU, Philippines - The new chief of police of the City of Naga vowed that the days of police scalawags in the city are numbered.

Superintendent Jovito Canlapan said that cleansing the police ranks would be his top priority before implementing his plans and programs for the community.

He explained that he does not want to appear hypocrite by going after lawless elements in the city but could not instill discipline to his own men. Canlapan said he would be asking the cooperation of the 57 policemen in the City of Naga for a better working environment.

Canlapan replaced Superintendent Ricky Delilis who was relieved by the provincial headquarters effective on October 12 because of alleged poor performance.

Canlapan said he will do his best to reciprocate the support that the police are getting from the local government. The city government of Naga donated P20 million worth of police office.

Canlapan has paid a courtesy call on Mayor Valdemar Chiong after his assumption. He promised to help the mayor in the campaign against illegal drugs and other forms of illegal activities in the city.

Canlapan said he will organize a group that would serve as force multiplier to help them in their operations.

“Maningkamot ko nga malipay ang labaw nako ug ang katawhan sa Naga sa ako unyang ipakita nga trabaho,” Canlapan said. (FREEMAN)
