Diola hits ‘political’ maneuvers in DepEd

May B. Miasco/FPL - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The chairman of the Cebu City Local School Board believes that politics came into play in the recent reshuffling of the school officials in Cebu.

Ronald Diola suspects that there was political maneuvering involved in the reassignment of three division superintendents in Cebu.

Diola said Secretary Armin Luistro ordered the reassignment of Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Rhea Mar Angtud to the Cebu Provincial Schools Division, replacing Dr. Arden Monisit who was transferred to Mandaue City.

Mandaue City Division Superintendent Virginia Zapanta was also reassigned to Cebu City. However, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III protested the reassignment of Monisit.

Davide said he wanted to keep Monisit in the province, resulting in Luistro’s reversing his order even before the concerned DepEd officials could assume their new assignment.

“I don’t know if this is part of the game. We will have to question the DepEd secretary. It was him who signed the first order but then reversed it himself. We will have to find the recent order. We have to be explained well,” Diola said.

According to Diola, Mayor Michael Rama should have been consulted on the reversal of reassignment order.

The suspicions came after Angtud was allegedly accompanied by former vice mayor Joy Augustus Young during the customary courtesy call with Davide.

After the courtesy call, Davide issued a statement that he does not want Angtud in the province because he intends to keep Monisit.  (FREEMAN)
