Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A man died after one of his drinking buddies slit his throat Saturday evening in Barangay Duyan, Catmon, Cebu.

The victim was Concordio Nieves, 42, of Sitio Cambatiti of the same barangay. The suspect, Julius Puno, 39, of Purok Atis, Barangay Corazon, was arrested during a hot pursuit operation.

Senior Police Officer 2 Cresente Armamento, desk officer of Catmon Police Station, said the victim together with the suspect and other friends had a drinking session starting at noon on Saturday.

“Nag-inom sa wala pa ang hitabo, lingaw-lingaw og inom, didto naniudto sa nahitaboan kay nag-ihaw og iro ilang isumsom,” Armamento said.

The victim and the suspect were enjoying their time and were seen happily talking and cracking jokes before Nieves fell asleep. While the rest of their drinking buddies went home, Puno reportedly stayed with the victim.

The suspect allegedly slit Nieves’ throat using his scythe killing the latter instantaneously. Puno immediately fled after killing the victim but was arrested during the hot pursuit operation.

Armamento said the suspect may have been harboring ill feelings towards the victim and was just waiting for the right timing. Puno is now detained at the Catmon Police Station while waiting for the filing of the criminal complaint for murder.

Meanwhile, Czech national was found dead midnight on Saturday hanging inside his house in Bantayan.

Millan Axmannova, 51, believed to be suffering from depression, was discovered by his Filipina wife suspended from the ceiling of their house. Axmannova used a rope to tie around his neck.

The victim was rushed to Bantayan District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. (FREEMAN)
