CEBU, Philippines - The newly-born baby boy who was found Sunday evening in front of a house in Barangay Hagnaya, San Remigio died at the hospital yesterday dawn, police said.
PO3 Dante Teaño, desk officer of San Remigio Police Station, said the baby was found by Malyn Hinoguin, 24, near her house past 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Hinoguin reportedly found the baby near the gate as she was about to get inside their house, said Teaño.
The baby was wrapped in a paper when found and was said to be “weak,” Teaño said.
Because it was raining and was already late at night, Hinoguin decided to take care of the baby.
Hinoguin did not report the baby to the police immediately because she tried to locate the boy’s mother.
The following morning, Hinoguin went to the police station and the police coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
After initial talks, it was decided that the baby should still be under the custody of Hinoguin while the police were still trying to locate the child’s parents.
Because the boy seemed to be “weak” he was brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City, said Teaño.
But he learned that the boy died at the hospital yesterday dawn.
San Remigio police coordinated with the barangay officials to find the boy’s parents. — (FREEMAN)
