De Lima: Opportunities during PNoy term must continue

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima told Cebuanos yesterday the “strong economic fundamentals , anti-corruption victories, as well as transparency” the Philippines experienced under the Aquino administration must be sustained by the country’s next leaders.

"We cannot afford to squander the many opportunities opened-up in the past five years when we built the strong foundation for our country's development," De Lima said in a speech at the Indiana Aerospace University in Mactan.

She was in Cebu yesterday to grace the opening of the Aerospace Student Condominium Building. She was also installed as Hermana Mayor 2015 during the feast day of St. Therese of Lisieux.

"Slowly but surely, we are achieving our dreams as a nation. More and more the world is beginning to notice," she said, adding, sayang naman if the next administration will have a totally different thrust na masasayang lang."

Also yesterday, De Lima sought for and received spiritual blessing from the covenant sisters at the St. Therese of Lisieux, the university church of the IAU-Mactan Campus

She is running for senator under the ruling Liberal Party for which she said she is excited and scared.

"I really can't say I am prepared. I am both excited and scared. Excited because I considered it as another challenge. Scared because I don't have any experience in politics. I do not have a political base," she said. /JMO (FREEMAN)
