One Cebu to announce vice governor bet on weekend
CEBU, Philippines – Former Provincial Board member, lawyer Winston Garcia, is set to announce his running mate on October 11, a day before the start of the filing of the certificate of candidacy for the May 2016 elections.
Garcia is running for governor for local One Cebu Party, which will hold its general assembly at the White Gold House on Sunday to announce its official candidates.
The party’s president, former governor and now Representative Gwendolyn Garcia, is seeking reelection in the Third District while the district’s former congressman and One Cebu’s secretary-general, lawyer Pablo John Garcia, will run for congress in the newly created Seventh District.
Ruling Liberal Party is yet to announce its complete lineup for next year’s polls but Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale have declared their bid for reelection.
Davide also announced his support for the presidential bid of former DILG secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, a fellow LP member.
One Cebu, meanwhile, is yet to declare who it will support for president. Winston, the party’s new leader, said the matter is still being discussed by the party’s officials.
Earlier, however, Winston said he has spoken with Senator Grace Poe before the latter announced her presidential bid with Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero as running mate. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
