Bakud Party still has no presidential bet

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Despite an alliance with the local members of the Liberal Party, the Durano-led Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) Party in the fifth district of Cebu has not yet chosen who among the presidential wannabes to support in 2016.

The Bakud Party had forged an alliance with LP in 2013. The party has also announced recently that it is supporting the reelection bid of Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.

Davide is the provincial chairman of the Liberal Party in Cebu while Magpale is a member of Bakud Party.

Bakud president and Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon ‘Red” Durano VI said they will announce their presidential candidate soon.

Davide has appealed to the Bakud members to support the candidacy of former Interior and Local Government secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II and whoever is his runningmate.

Davide was invited during the convention and nomination of candidates of Bakud Party in Danao City last Friday.

Davide along with Magpale were proclaimed the official candidates of Bakud Party for governor and vice governor, respectively.

“Ato paningkamutan nga si Secretary Roxas modaug sa Sugbo ilabi na sa fifth district kay we are backed by very strong party, Bakud,” Davide said.

Davide added that most of the mayors in the Province of Cebu are members of LP.

Bakud was the first in the province to hold its convention and nomination of candidates and has completed its slates in the entire district.

Davide credited Bakud for his victory in 2013 elections.

Bakud Party vice president and Representative Joseph Felix Mari “Ace” Durano said that out of 1,778 elected officials in the firth district, 89 percent or 1,589 belong to Bakud. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
