Aquino in Cebu today but no advice on LP meet

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino will be in Cebu today for the Finance Ministers Meeting of the ongoing Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings.

But while it was announced earlier he intends to settle the conflict among local leaders of the Liberal Party, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said there was no advice about the matter as of yesterday.

She also said that Interior Secretary Mar Roxas may or may not join Aquino.

“Nothing definite yet. We are not even sure if Sec. Mar Roxas will join the President,” she said yesterday.

Last week, Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes was quoted as saying that Aquino and Roxas will meet with local LP leaders to resolve their issues.

The LP team in the first district, which includes De los Reyes, has complained of the presence of the Alayon Party in the LP, saying if Congressman Gerald Anthony Gullas of Alayon becomes the district chairman, they would be left in the dark.

Magpale explained, “Katong gi-announce that Sec. Roxas will solve that, mao gihapon ang among gisaligan.”

Alayon, a local party, has already pledged its support for Governor Hilario Davide and Magpale, LP’s candidates for the province’s top posts next year. — (FREEMAN)
