Vessel can’t travel after engine trouble

CEBU, Philippines- The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has temporarily barred a passenger vessel from sailing following an engine trouble that led to the delay of arrival at its port of destination.

 MV Trans Asia 2, owned by Trans Asia Shipping, was plying its regular Ozamiz to Cebu route when it encountered engine trouble Sunday night, a few hours after leaving Ozamiz City. “The vessel encountered an engine problem with its turbo chargers, starboard proportion engine. Then there is a report that they docked past the scheduled arrival in Cebu,” said MARINA spokesperson Atty. Jose Cabatingan.

 The passenger vessel reportedly sailed slower than its normal speed owing to the engine trouble which led to the delay.

 With this, the vessel’s Passenger Ship Safety Certificate was suspended and will only be lifted if inspection by MARINA will turn out positive, Cabatingan added.

MARINA will inspect the ship once the shipping company sets the date.  

 The Freeman tried to get a statement from Trans Asia Shipping but its spokesperson was in a meeting yesterday.

 Until the suspension is lifted, the suspended passenger vessel remains docked at pier 5 in Cebu City.  (FREEMAN)
