“Kidnapped”man linked to Swertres

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The “abducted” man whose body was found in a cliff in Barangay Babag, Cebu City was reportedly facing an illegal gambling case and was currently out on bail.

Police Officer 2 Larry Fernandez, desk officer of Compostela Police Station, said that Coliflores was arrested after allegedly operating an illegal “swertres” game.   Fernandez said Coliflores was released from jail after posting bail.

Coliflores’ body was found in a cliff Friday morning by some residents of Sitio Maling, Barangay Babag, Cebu City.

Fernandez said that before Coliflores’ body was found, his wife reported to Compostela Police Station that her husband was abducted last Thursday.

Fernandez said that Coliflores’ wife, Dyna, filed a report telling the police that on Thursday afternoon, her husband was sitting near the national road in Sitio Bali-bali, Barangay Cogon, Compostela town when a white van stopped next to him.

Dyna partly saw the plate number which had the numbers 963.

Six unidentified people reportedly alighted from the van and forcibly grabbed the victim towards the van and sped away to an unknown location.

The following morning, Coliflores’ body was found in a cliff in Barangay Babag. Coliflores reportedly suffered from a fractured neck and his face was wrapped in plastic to prevent him from breathing.

Homicide investigators of the Cebu City Police Station, led by SPO2 Rommel Bancog, noticed no other injuries in the body, aside from the fractured bone in the neck.

Investigators are still gathering information in Barangay Babag to check if there are possible witnesses who happened to see the people responsible for dumping the victim’s body.

Bancog said they will also be closely coordinating with Compostela Police Station to gather more information to determine why Coliflores was killed. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
