Cops probe death of 3-year-old boy

CEBU, Philippines - Police are looking into the death of a 3-year-old boy who was rushed to the hospital after allegedly vomiting worms.

The boy was allegedly left in their makeshift shanty with his eight-month-old sibling when the neighbors saw the kid weak and vomiting.

The children’s mother was reportedly not in the area and their father is allegedly in prison.

When the child was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center, he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

Police Officer 3 Lou Pagara, investigator of the homicide section of the Cebu City Police Office, said they will look into all possible causes of the child’s death, including allegations that the child was beaten up by his mother.

However, he said they are not discounting the possibility that the child died because of a disease.

He explained that the child may have died because of diarrhea or a disease caused by worms since they personally saw worms coming out of his mouth.

Pagara said the 8-month-old child was also brought to the hospital after they noticed that he was also weak and was also vomiting.

“Nalooy naman mi nagtan-aw sa bata mga 8 ka bulan pa man siguro to, unya murag naa po’y sakit parehas sa magulang mao tong gidala na lang namo sa CCMC,” said Pagara.

He said the body of the 3-year-old has been forwarded for autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

“Para siguro aron mahibaw-an nato kung wala namatay sa bun-og ato na lang gipa-autopsy kay mao man ang ingon gud sa mga si-lingan nga ginadapatan daw ang bata,” Pagara said. — Ma. Fatima R. Secuya/ATO (FREEMAN)
