2 APEC vehicles in minor road accidents
CEBU, Philippines - Two vehicles of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit figured in minor road accidents in Cebu City last Tuesday afternoon.
The first happened at 3:50 p.m. at the corner of Jose Avila Street and Osmeña Boulevard when an APEC-accredited Nissan Altima driven by Mark Santos, 29, hit a Kia HSPUR driven by Emelio Rentino, 30, as the former was making a u-turn.
Manuel Taga-an, record-in-charge of the city’s Traffic Patrol Group, said Santos was travelling towards the Fuente Osmeña circle while Rentino was travelling towards the Cebu Provincial Capitol when the former hit the KIA’s rear left portion.
No one was injured in the incident with both drivers choosing to settle the matter amicably.
About two hours later, another APEC-accredited vehicle, a Hi-Ace Grandia driven by Ransom Taquiso, 55, hit a motorcycle ridden by Antonio Ambasing, 31, at Veterans Drive in Barangay Lahug,
SPO4 Porferio Lim Jr. also of the TPG said the van and the motorcycle were navigating a curve while driving uphill in the same direction when the van accidentally hit the motorcycle’s left steering handle, causing Ambasing to lose control of the vehicle and fall to the ground.
Ambasing reportedly refused to be brought to the hospital and chose to settle the matter with Taquiso amicably.
Lim said it is likely that the APEC vehicles figure in the accidents because most of the drivers are reportedly not from Cebu, therefore, not familiar with the streets here. — (FREEMAN)
