Tejero ‘robber’ nabbed with gun
CEBU, Philippines- A 34-year-old man believed to be behind the series of robbery incidents in Barangay Tejero, Cebu City was arrested after he was seized with a firearm on Saturday dawn.
Jovelito Mondejar alias “Opaw,” a resident of the barangay, was arrested by personnel of Waterfront Police Station who caught him with an unlicensed cal. 38 revolver loaded with ammunition.
The policemen were on roving patrol in Sitio Silangan, Arellano Boulevard at around 1 a.m. when they spotted the suspect, who has reportedly been under police surveillance for his alleged involvement in the series of robbery in the area.
Investigation further showed that Mondejar has recently been imprisoned at the Cebu City Jail also for robbery charges.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act will be filed against the suspect.
Meanwhile, the same charges were filed by Carcar City Police Station against a man and a woman arrested earlier after yielding firearms in separate incidents.
Police Officer 2 Alan Villasurda of Carcar City Police Station said Jennylyn Puerto, 34, and Romeo Quijas, 36, are now both facing charges for violation of RA 10591 after a cal. 9mm pistol and a cal. 38 revolver, respectively, were seized from them.
Carcar City Police personnel were conducting mobile patrol around the city when upon reaching Sitio Centro in Barangay Liburon, they reportedly noticed a suspicious-looking woman riding on a motorcycle.
They approached the woman, later identified as Puerto, who allegedly looked a bit tensed and uneasy.
Puerto allegedly dropped three live rounds of a caliber 9mm pistol to the ground, hence to her arrest. The police frisked her and reportedly found the gun on her waist.
In Barangay Can-asujan, also in Carcar City, police arrested Romeo Quijas, 36, after he allegedly brandished a gun and harassed people in the area.
A cal. 38 revolver with no bullet was confiscated from the suspect.
Puerto, a native of Sablayan Occidental Mindoro, and Quijas are now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Carcar City. (FREEMAN)
