Minglanilla murder: Grandma wants death penalty for killers

CEBU, Philippines- “Akala ko graduation pa ako pupunta dito, ang di ko alam kabaong na ang madadatnan ko.”

These were the words of the 74-year-old paternal grandmother who missed her granddaughter.

Adelaida Castillo was very emotional when interviewed by The Freeman at the wake of her granddaughter, Mica Ella, at the funeral parlor.

Mica Ella was murdered last week with her mother, Virginia Sharpe, at Deca Homes 2, Barangay Tungkil, Minglanilla, Cebu.

Castillo said she was supposed to visit her granddaughter on her elementary graduation next year as the latter is a candidate for valedictorian.

Castillo, mother of Mica Ella’s father, arrived from San Isidro, Northern Samar yesterday to see the dead body of her grandchild but did not anymore see her because it was already cremated when she arrived.

With tears rolling down from her eyes, Castillo recalled how cheerful her granddaughter was when she last visited her five years ago.

She remembered how Mica Ella wanted to become an angel. She even asked her grandfather when he was still alive to make an angel’s wings for her and pretended that she could fly.

Castillo said that even if Virginia broke up with her son and married to a foreigner she would still allow her granddaughter to see them.

“Bisan naminyo na siya sa foreigner iya man gihapon pabisitahon ang bata sa amoa. Nakadawat ra man pud iyang papa nga wala na sila sa iyang mama,” Castillo said.

Castillo was grateful to Robert Sharpe, Virginia’s new husband, for adopting her granddaughter and taking care of her like his own.

Castillo said she was shocked to receive a call from a relative informing her about the incident. She wanted the three suspects who are now in police custody to suffer the death penalty.

Mica Ella’s biological father, who is a seaman, is now in Manila and is scheduled to come to Cebu to see the remains of his daughter before it will be laid to rest in Zamboanga.  (FREEMAN)
