Detainee escapes provincial jail
CEBU, Philippines - An inmate at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center has escaped Saturday dawn.
Michael Dela Rosa, 35, married and resident of Balamban, Cebu, was believed to have scaled the perimeter fence past 1 a.m. at the middle of the heavy downpour.
Dela Rosa was committed in CPDRC on March 3, 2015 because of drugs and illegal possession of firearm.
CPDRC consultant Marco Toral admitted that they had no idea about the escape until an inmate trustee informed them that they lack one in their cell. It was only in the morning that they were alerted of the escape.
Toral said a manhunt operation was already conducted to capture Dela Rosa. The jail management has also suspended the visitation privilege of all the inmates until the escapee is arrested.
Toral said he already submitted the names of the jail guards on duty to the Office of the Governor for investigation. Toral said they have yet to get the details about how Dela Rosa managed to escape because they could not view the footage from the security camera until Monday.
He explained that there is no office on weekends where they can view the security footage. (FREEMAN)
