Man, 27, stabbed by basketball opponent
CEBU, Philippines - A man was injured after he was stabbed by another man allegedly over basketball Monday night in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
Ricky Yongco, 27, a resident of Barangay Calamba was stabbed to his back by David Degamo, 21, whom he had a fistfight during a basketball match.
Yongco was reportedly sitting beside the basketball court in sitio Manggahan at 10:30 p.m. while watching other boys playing basketball when Degamo, who was armed with a knife, ran towards him and stabbed him.
The victim was wounded on his back and was brought to Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect, a resident of Barangay Labangon, fled.
According to Police Officer 1 Romil Bilocura of Homicide Section said Yongco, in an interview, alleged that he figured in a fistfight with Degamo prior to the stabbing incident allegedly because of blatant body contact.
They were allegedly pacified by their friends, and since they were supposedly settled, Yongco said he did not expect Degamo would stab him.
Authorities are now looking for the suspect while the victim is still being treated at the hospital. (FREEMAN)
