Accreditation of jeepney terminal in city pushed

CEBU, Philippines - A local transport group is continuing to push for the accreditation of a terminal in Cebu City for north-bound jeepneys.

Romeo Armamento, national vice president of the National Confederation of Transportworkers Union-Central Visayas, said the White Gold management is now in the process of submitting its documents for re-accreditation as a terminal by the Cebu City government.

 Armamento said north-bound jeepneys should have another terminal in order to avoid loading and unloading passengers everywhere.

“Labi na karon nga mahal na baya ang multa sa madakpan nga bisan asa lang magkuha og pasahero,” said Armamento.

 To date, north-bound jeepneys have a terminal at JCentre Mall in Mandaue City.

 However, there are those that reach up to SM City Cebu in Mabolo, Cebu City to get passengers.

Armamento said they will also look for a terminal that will likewise give incentives to the drivers like at JCentre Mall where drivers are given life and fire insurance.

 Aside from this, drivers who park at JCentre Mall are given 20 percent of their P10 parking fee, per entry.

“Mao sad unta ni ang gusto namo nga i-negotiate sa White Gold kung ma-accredit na sila, nga naa sad incentives ang drivers nga moadto ana nga terminal,” Armamento added.

There are around 300 jeepney drivers, who are members of the NCTU-CV, who park at JCentre Mall.

 NCTU-CV has more than 2,000 members-drivers in Cebu alone. —NSA (FREEMAN)
