Archdiocese celebrates Calungsod feast today
CEBU, Philippines - Although San Pedro Calungsod’s official feast day is on April 2, the Archdiocese of Cebu is celebrating it today as it falls within the Holy Week.
Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will lead a concelebrated Pontifical Mass at the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod inside the Archbishop’s Palace at 10 a.m. today.
It will be followed by another mass at 5 p.m. that Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal will lead after the solemn procession.
Today also happens to be the opening of the two-day Local World Youth Day at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
Young Catholics from different parishes of the archdiocese will gather in prayer and reflect on issues facing the youth of today as they lead a Christian life.
Palma will also hold a dialogue with the participants the evening and will preside the Palm Sunday mass at dawn tomorrow.
March 28 is likewise the 500th birth anniversary of St. Therese of the Child Jesus.
A 9 a.m. Holy Mass will be celebrated inside the Carmelite Monastery in Mabolo, Cebu City as the saint is a Carmelite nun. — Jessa J. Agua/RHM (FREEMAN)
