Complaint filed vs hospital staff over ‘malpractice’

CEBU, Philippines - The husband of the woman who died at the Mandaue City Hospital allegedly due to malpractice filed a formal complaint against the hospital’s staff  before the National Bureau of Investigation yesterday.

Cesar Coliflores supported his complaint with the findings of the Department of Health, which recommended the filing of administrative cases against the hospital staff.

Coliflores’ lawyer, Hazan Bargamento, said it will be the agency that would file the final and formal complaint against those involved in the incident.

Aside from Coliflores’ affidavit and the DOH report, Bargamento said they also attached affidavits of their witnesses.

They are also waiting for the result of the re-autopsy of Jocelyn, 40, to determine the cause of death.

Jocelyn reportedly dies minutes after she was injected with the “wrong medicine” by a medical attendant supposedly to treat her urinary tract infection. The medicine was allegedly given even without laboratory tests.

After 750 milligrams of Cefuroxime was injected to her dextrose, Jocelyn reportedly went wild that the hospital staff had to tie her down using a white cloth.

A diphenhydramine hydrochloric acid was then allegedly injected to Jocelyn to calm her down but she died 45 minutes later.

Based on the hospital’s files, Jocelyn died of a ruptured blood vessel in the brain. —(FREEMAN)
