Boy hangs self after caught stealing
CEBU, Philippines – A 15-year-old boy hanged himself to death after he was allegedly caught stealing from a neighbor’s house, Friday in Barangay Bitoon, Daanbantayan town.
Embarrassment or fear of getting scolded by his father for committing the theft was believed to have pushed the high school student of Barangay Poblacion to commit suicide, the police said.
Children who were walking at the seashore past 9 p.m. found the victim’s body hanging from a talisay tree, said Police Officer 1 Roberto Dapat of Daanbantayan Police Station.
Dapat said the boy hanged himself using a belt.
Prior to this, the student was allegedly caught by his neighbor Sheila Gulfan stealing inside their house at past 6 p.m.
The boy’s father, a trisikad driver, tried to find him until informed that his child has committed suicide.
No signs of struggle that would suggest foul play were found on the victim’s body.
Dapat said the boy, whose mother died when he was younger, was a silent-type of teenager who loves to play the computer. — (FREEMAN)
