Search for Journalists of the Year on; local media urged to join
CEBU, Philippines - The second nationwide search for journalists of the year is on, this time urging local journalists to join.
Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) has tied up with Probe Media Foundation, Inc. (PMFI) to honor the most inspiring and effective Filipino journalists for their contribution to positive change and nation-building.
MBFI and PMFI formally launched yesterday the 2015 Search for Journalists of the Year (JOY) at Crown Regency Hotel and Towers in Cebu City.
Holding their second launching in Cebu, MBFI president Aniceto Sobrepeña urged local journalists to join.
“Media bring relevant matters into the public sphere and help form public opinion on issues affecting every citizen. News reportage can stir public concern, shape public opinion, and initiate public dialogues. Thus, it is important that journalists continue to undertake their power with utmost responsibility,” said Sobrepeña.
Speaking before media reporters, he said the search is aimed at honoring Filipino journalists from print, broadcast and online media, whose excellent storytelling has contributed to the development of the nation and influenced audience’s awareness on social issues.
The search, Sobrepeña said, is another significant step to encourage journalists to become responsible in the delivery of news while striving for excellence in the practice of the profession.
For qualified journalists, he or she must be a Filipino citizen and currently works fulltime in any media organization for at least 10 years. Applicants must also be practicing any medium such as print, radio, television and online in the country on a regular basis and as a primary source of income.
