Lending firm loses money, phones to robbers

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A lending firm in Barangay Sambag, Bogo City lost P40,000 cash and six mobile phones to three unidentified robbers last Saturday night.

PO1 Ian Gesite, desk officer of Bogo City Police Station, said three men barged into Casablanca Lending Investors Corporation at past 7 p.m. and ordered the seven employees at gunpoint to lie down under the table.

One of the three held Evangeline Maitum, an encoder, at gunpoint and demanded that she open the vault. Out of fear, Maitum did so and the robbers took the P40,000 kept there.

The robbers also took six mobile phones, three of which belong to the company while the other three belong to the employees.

The suspects then forced the employees into the restroom and locked them there before fleeing on a motorcycle.

The employees said it took them several minutes to barge out of the restroom and ask for police assistance. The cops tried to pursue the robbers but to no avail.

Gisete said it is most likely that the robbers are experienced considering their confidence in barging into the firm and holding their victims at gunpoint.

“Dili na ni first timer kahibawo na man sila sa kuan didto. Kursonada gyud ni, gidiritso man og sulod,” Gisete said. – Bryner L. Diaz/JMO (FREEMAN)
