Cabbie arrested for “abducting” ex-gf

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 32-year-old taxi driver who allegedly abducted his former girlfriend near Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral on Friday night was arrested by the police yesterday in Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

Police Officer 1 Ivy Tambanillo of the Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk of Waterfront Police Station said the suspect’s arrest stemmed from the report made by the victim’s fiancé.

The police are withholding the names of both the victim and the suspect pending the filing of the charges.

The 25-year-old victim and her fiancé were walking near the church on their way home when the suspect saw them and blocked them with his taxicab.

The suspect then alighted from the taxi and grabbed the victim.

The suspect, who is taller and bigger than the victim’s fiancé, told him, “Unsa man, mosukol ka? (What? You want to fight with me?)”

The victim told the suspect to spare her fiancé. She also told her fiancé latter to just run away.

However, the suspect followed the guy, who managed to escape and report the incident to the Waterfront Police Station.

The suspect allegedly brought the victim to his boarding house in Barangay Duljo-Fatima where he scolded and threatened to kill her and her family if she escapes.

The victim said the suspect kissed her but she pushed him back.

The victim’s mother, who cried in anger, said the suspect was her daughter’s former lover but they had already broken up.

They coordinated with the Waterfront Police Station personnel and went to the boarding house of the suspect.

Policemen arrested the suspect who was eating at an eatery.

They proceeded to the suspect’s room and rescued the victim.

The suspect denied abducting the victim, saying he just told her to come with him since they are lovers. He said they have been together for three years while she has been with her fiancé for only two months.

“Wa g’yud na nako gi-kidnap, sir. Uyab gud mi, tulo gani mi katuig nag-ipon,” he said, further denying he threatened the victim and her family.

Tambanillo said the victim is keen on pressing charges against the suspect.

Tambanillo said they are now preparing the affidavit of the victim and her fiancé for the filing of the case tomorrow. —NSA (FREEMAN)
