Deeper probe sought into cop’s murder

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines- The Cebu Police Provincial Office wants a deeper investigation into the killing of SPO4 Rasul Segismar in Minglanilla town last Valentine’s Day.

“There’s must be a deeper reason if a police officer is being killed in cold blood,” CPPO director Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac told reporters yesterday.

Gillamac tasked the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch and the Provincial Intelligence Branch to identify the killers and the motive of the killing.

Segismar was on his way home when he was gunned down by still unidentified men past 12 midnight on February 14 in Barangay Poblacion Ward II.

Before he was killed, he was still able to send a Valentine greeting to his wife.

Although Gillamac said he understands witnesses may be afraid to come out at this point, he remains hopeful that one or two will show up in the next days.

Gillamac said Segismar was previously assigned in Minglanilla but was relieved and assigned to another police station after he received a complaint tagging Segismar in an illegal activity.

Gillamac said separate investigation regarding that complain is still pending.

Segismar was reassigned at Minglanilla Police Station under the localization platform, which made it easier for Segismar since his family lives in the same town.

Mayor Elanito Peña allegedly objected to Segismar’s reassignment to the town.

Chief Inspector Richard Gadingan, Minglanilla police chief, visited the Anti-Cybercrime Group office at Camp General Arcadio Maxilom yesterday morning to request that the police officer’s mobile phone be examined.

Gadingan said there might be information stored in the victim’s mobile phone that might help them in their investigation.

Meanwhile, the provincial headquarters will be asking for donations to be given as financial assistance to Segismar’s family.  (FREEMAN)
