Anti-mendicancy body asks for vehicle to perform better

CEBU, Philippines- To help it address the concern on street dwellers and street children, the Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office (CCAMO) has requested for another vehicle for use its rescue teams in the enforcement of its mandate.

“The Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office is undertaking measures to effectively achieve social amelioration (for the)…less fortunate members of the society,” said CCAMO Chief Isabelita Ganub in justifying the request.

She said her office is implementing a transformation project for street dwellers and street children, but they only have one vehicle for all of their activities.

“Notwithstanding the wide scope of the office, the office still suffers the lack of logistics which will facilitate the implementation of the project, specifically vehicle,” she said.

Ganub said CCAMO needs a vehicle each for its North Rescue Team and the South Rescue Team.

She requested for a Mitsubishi L300 vehicle worth P900, 000, which Mayor Michael Rama has approved.

Purchase, though, requires City Council approval, hence her request to the body.

City Councilor Gerardo Carillo took the cudgel for CCAMO by sponsoring a resolution approving the purchase of the vehicle, which he found “justifiable”.

He, however, requested for deferment of the approval of his resolution in their regular session last week.

He said he stated there that the request was for two vehicles, but Ganub’s letter to Rama mentioned only one.  (FREEMAN)
