Man shot by GF’s cousin

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two days before Valentine’ Day, an 18-year-old man was injured after he was shot by the cousin of his girlfriend along MC Briones Street, Barangay San Roque, Cebu City the other day.

John Ryan dela Peña, 18, was eating together with his girlfriend, Mary Ann Flores, Thursday night when he was reportedly shot thrice by Carlo Martorillas, the girl’s cousin.

Police investigation showed that Martorillas, who was accompanied by his friends, arrived at the area and approached the lovers.

Martorillas allegedly told Flores first to be silent or else he will shoot her. He then shot dela Peña, who suffered gunshot wounds to his left hand, right chest and at the back of his neck.

He was immediately brought to Cebu City Medical Center for treatment. Bancog said that the victim is currently in a stable condition.

Senior Police Officer 2 Rommel Bancog of the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said that Martorillas harbored ill feelings towards the victim since dela Peña allegedly abuses Flores physically.

Bancog also said that the suspect really has the intention to kill dela Peña since Martorillas shot him thrice. He explained that if it was only meant to threaten the victim, the suspect could have shot him once.

He also cited that dela Peña got hit on his hand as he tried to defend himself from being shot.

No empty shells were recovered at the crime scene. The police believe that the suspect used a revolver to shoot the victim.

The personnel of Waterfront Police Station are conducting a hot pursuit operation against Martorillas who managed to escape after the shooting incident. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/ATO (FREEMAN)
