Women cops get pre-Valentine gifts

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Police Office held yesterday a pre-Valentine’s Day special event to honor and appreciate the important role women in the organization play.

At least 58 policewomen and female non-uniformed personnel received flowers and cupcakes at the CCPO parade ground.

Superintendent Arnel Banzon, CCPO deputy chief for administration, and local artist Borgie Cabigas handed out the Valentine gifts to 34 of the women who were around. The remaining 24 received theirs during the day.

Chief Inspector Enrique Belciña of the CCPO Police Community Relations said that of the 58 who received gifts, 44 were policewomen and 14 were female non-uniformed pers.

Banzon said the act of giving flowers and sweets to women-in-uniform is their simple means of making them happy and by “showing appreciation”.

“It also shows that we also celebrate like normal people do,” he said.

Senior Inspector Arieza Otida, CCPO Women and Children’s Protection Desk chief, said they felt overwhelmed after receiving the gifts.

“Gitagaan mi og importansya on this very special day,” she said.

Meanwhile, Otida advised the public to report to authorities if they see anyone exploiting children and other “vulnerable” individuals by bringing them to hotels and motels during the celebration of Valentine’s Day.

“Wa ta kahibawo magdala sila og mga bata inside these kinds of establishments. Kon mahimo nga naa mo’y makita nga kaso, especially on trafficking, any adult na makita ninyo magdala og bata anang mga lugara, palihug i-report sa pinakaduol nga police station aron matagaan nato og action,” she said.

Banzon also reminded the public to be vigilant against lawless elements, who would usually take advantage of the occasion, especially in establishments like restaurants and parks that lovers are expected to flock to. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/RHM (FREEMAN)
