NNC: Cebu City has most underweight kids
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City topped in the National Nutrition Council’s 2013 Operation Timbang for preschoolers in all cities in Central Visayas.
The preschoolers weighed were between the age of zero and 59 months.
Based on the survey results, Cebu City had the most malnourished children with 3,359 or 2.98 percent of the 112,245 preschoolers weighed considered underweight and 670 or 0.06% “severely underweight.”
Mandaue City came second with 922 out of the 45,421children or 2.03% were underweight and 306 or .67 percent as severely underweight.
Giuhulngan City in Negros Oriental was third with 884 of its children or 7.75 percent of the 11,404 were underweight and 265 were severely underweight.
Meanwhile, the City of Naga had 741of the 15,634 preschoolers found to be underweight, while 275 as severely underweight.
In the same survey, Carcar City’s 548 preschoolers of the 12,553 who underwent the Operation Timbang were listed as underweight, while 120 of the number were considered severely underweight.
Bogo City also had 288 underweight children, and 40 severely underweight. This result was based from the 9,748 preschoolers weighed by NNC.
Talisay City, which in the past year topped the survey for having the most malnourished children, only had 377 from the 26,004 children considered underweight and 178 as severely underweight.
In Toledo City, of the 21,038 preschoolers weighed, 317 were underweight while 91 were severely underweight.
In Lapu-Lapu City, of the 49,086 kids, 483 were underweight and 149 were severely underweight. — (FREEMAN)
