Man “hacks” brod-in-law

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A man was allegedly hacked and stabbed to death by his brother-in-law in Toledo City a few hours after the victim’s wife had an altercation with the suspect past 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Severino Ares, of Upper Baud, Barangay Media Once died after he was allegedly hacked and stabbed by his neighbor and brother-in-law, Diomedes Hantica, 57.

Don Andres Soriano Police Substation officer-in-charge, Senior Police Officer 4 Carmelito Hornales, said that the victim sustained fatal stab wounds on his body. Ares reportedly received death threats prior to his death.

“Daghan kaayo siya ug samad tinigbasan pero ang fatal gyud, kadtong lawom nga samad sa iyang dughan nilubaan, tan-aw naku sundang ang gigamit kay daku man ang samad,” Hornales said.

Hantica allegedly threatened the victim on Saturday that he will kill his entire family, said Hornales.

The suspect allegedly scolded the Ares’ wife after he got wet near the well while the latter was washing clothes.

The two of them quarreled and right after the threat, the Ares’ wife had the incident reported at the barangay.

On Saturday afternoon, Ares went to the farm but his family wondered why he did not come home later that evening.

His child and wife grew weary of waiting so they decided to go to the farm but even before reaching the farm, they saw the victim on the ground lifeless.

They reported the incident to the police who immediately went to the crime scene and recovered a jacket, allegedly owned by the suspect, with blood spatters on it.

“Duda naku ani sir nagtinigbasay pani sila kay naghawid paman ni siya sa iyang sundang, puros ni sila naay mga sundang kay mga mag-uuma man ning trabaho nila,” Hornales said.

Hornales suspects that Hantica is responsible for the death of his brother-in-law because after the crime he went missing.

The police, however, cannot determine if the suspect is also wounded because nobody saw the incident and he was nowhere to be found.

The police already launched a hot pursuit operation to capture the suspect.  (FREEMAN)
