House broken into while owners attend procession

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A couple lost P100,000 worth of jewelries to a burglar who broke into their house in Barangay Valencia, Carcar City while they were away attending the Solemn Procession in Cebu City last Saturday.

The Carcar City police said that Reynaldo Manayaga, 44, and his wife Geralyn, who owns a poultry farm, went to Cebu City to join the foot procession.

They left their house on Saturday but when they reached home the next day, they noticed that the screen door of their two-storey house was destroyed.

The burglar took the couple’s necklace, earrings, bracelets worth P100,000.

The couple suspected that Edelberto Tangag Jr., 33, a relative of Geralyn, was responsible of the crime.

The police invited Tangag for questioning and was trembling during the investigation.

In the middle of the interrogation, Tangag told the police he was responsible and returned the jewelries.

Tangag was allegedly drunk when he broke into the couple’s house but the victims still opted to file a case against Tangag since the incident was already his third attempt.

The police said that Tangag has also been involved in two sari-sari store robberies. — (FREEMAN)
