Store supervisor indicted of qualified theft

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a cashier supervisor of an uptown department store for qualified theft.

Assistant city prosecutor Van Russell Inopiquez found probable cause against Edna Camance, 38, to face trial in court for allegedly stealing over P200,000 from Robinson’s Department Store. The prosecutor’s office did not recommend bail for Camance’s temporary liberty.

Camance reportedly has stolen a total of P223,738.74 from the store’s vault on January 5. Upon investigation the accused claimed that when she opened the vault on January 5 the money was already missing.

But the store management found out that on January 4 at around 5 p.m. the accused went out of the cashier office leaving the cashiering main door and the vault unlocked. Store manager Wennie Tantuico said it was the second time that the accused was involved in such incident.

The first time she was only ordered to replenish the missing amount.— (FREEMAN)
