Indian moneylender robbed by men on motorcycle

Bryner L. Diaz - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - An Indian moneylender was reportedly robbed of his P20,000 cash collection by two motorcycle-riding men in Barangay Kawit, Medellin Monday afternoon.

The armed men allegedly robbed victim Torsen Singh, 40, at a gunpoint.

According to Police Officer Rolan Roben of Medellin Police Station, Singh, a resident of Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City and married to a Filipina, alleged that he just came from Daanbantayan town to collect money from clients.

He was driving a motorcycle on the way home at around 1 p.m. when two men who were riding in tandem on another motorcycle drove alongside with him and flagged him down.

The backrider, who was wearing a ball cap, took a handgun from a sling bag, pointed it at Singh, and signaled the victim to pull over.

The backrider allegedly stood about 5’4” tall and has a beard.

Singh stopped and was told by the robbers to give his money.

The victim heeded and handed over his cash collections to the robbers, who then sped off.

Roben said the robbers may have been tailing the Indian national.

“Basin gisundan na si siya, sir. Na-pattern na siguro ni iyang lihok,” Roben theorized.

The victim proceeded to the police station and reported the incident a few minutes after a municipal employee informed the police about it.

The police conducted a hot pursuit operation and established checkpoints in the town, but failed to arrest the robber. A follow-up operation, however, is ongoing. — (FREEMAN)
