Two found dead in Compostela, Medellin

CEBU, Philippines - A woman believed to have been washed out by a flashflood during the typhoon Seniang was found dead Sunday morning floating in a river in Barangay Cabadiangan, Compostela town.

The unidentified body of the woman was found by Gorio Vergara at Sitio Grahi-an. Police Officer 3 Arni Goc-ong, of the Compostela Police Station, said that Vergara went on fishing for mudfish in the river when the latter’s attention was caught by a foul smell.

“Namingwit ra man daw to siya unya nakapanimaho og baho. Nakakita siya sa patay’ng lawas nga niburot na,” Goc-ong added.

Vergara first noticed the dead body on New Year’s Day but ignored it thinking that it was just a dead animal.

“Nakakita siya sa patay’ng lawas pag-Thursday pa pero iya lang gibalewala kay nagtuo siya nga usa ra to ka hayop nga gia-nod sa baha,” Goc-ong added.

It was only last Sunday that Vergara had clear view of the dead body prompting him to immediately report it to the police.

The woman is between 50 to 60 years old and is approximately 5’1” in height.

Meanwhile, a 48-year-old man reported missing on January 2 was found dead Sunday morning in Barangay Mahawak, Medellin. The body of Roberto Potestad was seen by fishermen floating in the sea. He was believed to have drowned.

Initial investigation shows that Potestad was allegedly drunk when he rode on a paddle boat to reach a pump boat nearby before he went missing.

“Hubog man siya, unya nisakay siya og sakayan padung didto sa dako nga pump boat. Iya unta ipalugar kay medyo dako-dako ang bawod,” said SPO3 Rolando Reyes of the Medellin Police Station.  (FREEMAN)
